Distance Learning Program

Our School will start the year with Distance Learning!

As soon as San Diego County has been off the California Monitoring List for 14 days, we are ready to begin on-campus learning with safety protocols in place. Protocols will include temperature checks, hand washing stations, sanitizer stations, outdoor learning spaces, and cohort and mask protocols.

Our philosophy has always been and will remain, putting the needs of our students first in a small, nurturing, and supportive environment.

In the area of curriculum and instruction, our school has considered the following:

  • The instructional calendar and school instructional minutes schedule will remain in effect while distance learning.
  • Instruction will align with current state standards.
  • Daily attendance is required each day Monday - Friday.
  • Offering Masses, prayer, and retreat opportunities on campus during distance learning to maintain our Catholic Identity
  • Religion will be taught every day in each grade throughout distance learning.
  • Teachers at St. Mary’s are trained in facilitating distance learning instruction for the duration of San Diego’s mandated remote learning period.
  • Students will be expected to check in daily through their Google Classroom account, which will be created by the school.
  • Feedback on learning and grading will be consistent with in-school expectations.
  • Assignments and assessments will be graded and recorded.
  • Students will attend online learning daily via Zoom for the teacher’s daily lessons.
  • Students will be expected to complete offline assignments. There will be a blended approach to balance online learning and offline learning.
  • Parents/Guardians must take an active role in their child’s learning. This role is essential for providing daily instructional support and collaborating with their child’s homeroom teacher.

The chart below outlines the distance learning instructional minutes guidance from the Diocese of San Diego. Students will need to follow their daily school and class schedules. Instructional minutes are based on the asynchronous time value of assignments as well as the synchronous whole-group and small-group instruction for all content areas for a 6.75 hour school day (8:00-2:45).
