Second and fourth grade students at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea school in Oceanside celebrated Thanksgiving in school dressed up as Pilgrims and Native Americans for Thanksgiving-themed activities on Monday. Teachers Donnah Snear-Williams and Angie Wilburn ran the day’s events with help from parents. The morning including having a feast, making baskets, playing Native American games, and learning about the historic traditions.
Students from the fourth grade at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in Oceanside followed the school’s tradition this week by inviting the second grade to share a Thanksgiving feast in the cafeteria. This year they added a little learning flair to the event by dressing as either pilgrims or Native Americans, learning to make dream catchers, quill pens, sing a Navajo song, play marbles and listen to some of the stories about that first Thanksgiving long ago.
