Our Principal

My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old, or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

-William Wordsworth

In any human endeavor a good beginning is everything, for it establishes the tone and direction of what is to follow. This is especially true for human life as a whole. The English poet Wordsworth said “the child is father of the man,” and it is well known that the experiences and events of our childhood and youth shape us in our character and dispositions, remaining with us even to old age. That is why it is so important that we provide our children with the love and care that will ensure many happy memories, in addition to the instruction that will provide a foundation for their future lives.

It is my pleasure to work in this community and to lead the dedicated teachers and staff of St. Mary, Star of the Sea. I have worked in a wide range of educational settings, from the east coast to the west, from elementary school to the college ranks. In all truth I must say that this is one of the most committed, capable, and enthusiastic staffs that I have had the pleasure to work with. This commitment and competence is reflected in the quality of the students who pass through our school and in their success upon leaving St. Mary’s.

I am proud of what we have accomplished with God’s help and the strong support of our parent community. I invite you to look through the pages of this website. A special feature that we have included is found in our “Classes” section. This will give you an in-depth look at our faculty and our curriculum throughout the grades. I think you will be impressed. I also invite you to come in to see our school in person. You will be most welcome. Contact us today.

Sincerely,

Alan Hicks
